Seeking a Lead Machine Builder for a permanent position in the Holland, MI area.
Role:
The Lead Machine Builder plays a pivotal role in constructing automated equipment and systems by proficiently assembling frames, fixtures, mechanisms, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical components. In addition to hands-on assembly, this position requires strong leadership skills to guide a team of builders, manage project timelines, and ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Responsibilities:
- Build custom automation equipment to print, ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Lead and mentor a team of machine builders, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
- Coordinate with project managers and engineers to align team efforts with project deadlines and objectives.
- Troubleshoot and repair custom machines as needed to maintain operational efficiency.
- Plumb pneumatic cylinders and valves according to pneumatic schematics, ensuring proper functionality and alignment.
- Route and run all wiring for sensors back to the main panel or I/O blocks, maintaining organization and adherence to electrical schematics.
- Collaborate with design and controls engineers throughout the machine build process, providing insights and feedback to optimize machine functionality.
- Adjust and refine machines once completely assembled to perfect machine operation, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Travel to customer facilities to install equipment, providing on-site support and leadership to ensure successful implementation.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and understanding technical drawings, blueprints, and BOM sheets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the machine-building process, including assembly techniques and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to build machines to blueprint specifications with precision and accuracy.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to delegate tasks and monitor team performance effectively.
- Experience in the assembly and teardown of machines, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance.
- Competency in using indicators, levels, and other precision tools to maintain machine integrity.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with software programs such as Microsoft Office.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of five years of mechanical assembly experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
